Certificate
in GIS/Remote Sensing
Background Information
The certificate program is open to students from any major, both graduate and undergraduate. It provides instruction in a number of areas involving cartography, GIS, and remote sensing. Two levels of the certificate can be awarded: Basic and Professional.
Most of these courses are designed to be taken in a logical sequence (e.g., 4805 - 4830 - 4831 or 4810 - 4820). Please plan your course schedule accordingly. To help you with charting out your educational experience, the following list of certificate requirements contains an indication of the semesters during which courses are typically offered (F- Fall; S-Spring; V-Varied).
A minimum grade of "C" has to be achieved in order to have a course count towards the certificate. In the case of elective courses taken outside of geography or at other institutions, you should write a letter to the Geography Department Chair describing the course in question (incl. a syllabus or similar information). This should allow the Department to judge the appropriateness of that particular course.
